Plantar Fasciitis is a painful inflammation of the plantar fascia, a thick fibrous tissue that starts at the heel and spreads to the toes. Usually the pain is concentrated at the heel and is most intense in the morning or when getting up after rest. There are many things that can contribute to plantar fasciitis including flat feet or over pronation, poor foot wear, long term standing, walking or running, specific injury and tight muscles of the calf. Often a heel spur can be seen on an x-ray. Treatment may include, stretching, ice, medication, physiotherapy, changes in foot wear, a plantar fasciitis night-splint and foot orthoses (orthotics).
